Shardé Simpson
School: Fordham University School of Law, J.D.
Shardé Simpson’s interest in the music industry began at Columbia University, where she spent her three years in college interning at Def Jam Recordings and in the Copyright Department at Sony Music. After graduating a year early, she joined JAY Z’s Entertainment Conglomerate Roc Nation in 2008 as one of its first employees. Spending nearly a decade at the company, she worked her way up by serving in multiple departments and learning the entertainment industry from the ground up. She advanced from executive assistant to A&R Administration and ultimately to the Business and Legal Affairs department, where she negotiated agreements, registered master recordings, and managed sponsorship partnerships.
As co-founder of Simpson and Reed, she brings strategic dealmaking, creative advocacy, and deep industry insight to a distinguished client roster that includes record labels and Grammy-winning artists.
Ciara Reed
School: University of Oregon School of Law, J.D.
Ciara Reed is a Billboard-recognized music attorney with more than a decade of experience supporting leading artists, producers, and entertainment companies. Before practicing law, she worked in the industry herself as a child actress and earned her SAG-AFTRA card, giving her a genuine understanding of life and business on the talent side.
Throughout her career, she has worked with Grammy-winning, A-list talent across the music and entertainment industries.
She has been trusted on complex deals for recording, publishing, brand partnerships, and film and television projects. Ciara is known for her detailed contract work, practical negotiation style, and strong relationships throughout the industry. She is also a proud mother of three (and one on the way), balancing a growing legal practice with a busy family life.
Katherine J. Khazal
School: Harvard Law School, J.D.
Katherine J. Khazal is a passionate entertainment attorney making her mark in the industry. She has worked with clients such as 4x Grammy-winning producer Anthony Kilhoffer, Egyptian songwriter Farghaly Blax, and R&B artist Riz. With a background at Roc Nation, the Nashville Predators, and Fox Rothschild LLP — where she worked with Rick Ross and Lady London — Katherine brings both legal precision and creative insight to the Simpson & Reed team.
